Model Restoration Ship And Boat Projects

The Ship John Wesley Restoration

A short while ago I took delivery of this model for restoration, the remit from the customer was to replace the rigging and sort out the masts etc as well as give it a good clean whilst leaving the hull paint job all original. The first task was to photograph the model in detail before removing the masts to carry out the necessary repairs.

Once the masts had been removed the cleaning process could be carried out this was straight forward enough although a little fiddly. With the masts now repaired they could then be put back into place on the model, this was followed by putting up all new shrouds and ratlines carefully checking that everything was lined up correctly before the forward and back stays were re-attached thus securing the masts into position. With the masts now in place the job to re-attach the yards could take place followed by the remainder of the rigging again very carefully checking as things progress.

In some cases new blocks were used but every effort was made to use all the original fittings where possible to maintain its authentic look, with all the work now completed the final task was to make sure everything was correct before housing the model in its new case to be enjoyed for years to come.

Overall this proved to be a very satisfying restoration.
